RESEARCH

My research broadly examines how data and documentation practices and systems reflect and shape the larger society, culture, and institutions where they are enacted. Drawing on perspectives from information studies and Science, Technology, and Society (STS), I am particularly interested in what is often called “research on research”. My current research projects focus on the sustainability and longevity of data archives (2015-2018) and peer review at Science Foundation Ireland (2018-2022).

I am also co-director with Professor Eugenia Siapera of the UCD Centre for Digital Policy

I am currently accepting applications from potential PhD students in the following topics. If you are interested in PhD supervision, please feel free to contact me:

I am co-editor in chief with Eugenia Siapera of the journal Online Information Review

I have been appointed as a representative of the Royal Irish Academy to the National Open Research Forum (NORF) Working Group on FAIR Data. I am also a co-opted member of the Social Sciences Committee of the RIA.

From 2014-2018, I served as one of the Irish representatives to the EU funded COST Action, New Frontiers in Peer Review (PEERE). Take a look at the Website for some of our outputs and ongoing activities and publications.
